THE EXONERATED

An ongoing collection of photographs depicting portraits of death row exonerees who were wrongfully convicted and have been freed because of their innocence

The death penalty carries the inherent risk of executing an innocent person. Since 1973, 185 people who were wrongly convicted and sentenced to death in the U.S. have been exonerated.

Tied together by the same "I Oppose the Death Penalty!" sign, the following exonerees have participated in this component of the Death Penalty Photography Project, which was inspired by Robert Rosenheck's "LOVE" book.
